The Grove is a beautiful woodland preserved for it’s oak-hickory savanna and wetland. It’s also a National Historic Landmark, featuring the work of Dr. John Kennicott, a physician and horticulturalist, and his son Robert, Illinois’ first naturalist. The Kennicott family settled at The Grove in 1836. Some original buildings and replicas are still there. The Grove also has a great nature center, where we’ll see a 130-year-old snapping turtle, many animals, and learn about Robert Kennicott’s discoveries.
